Definition

365体育网站Adenomyoepithelioma (AME) is a benign tumor of the breast, composed by a biphasic proliferation of phenotypically distinct myoepithelial cells and luminal epithelial cells.

Following the first description by Hamperl (1970), Tavassoli (1991) identified three histologic variants, in which myoepithelial and epithelial cells are present in variable percentages, namely, spindle, tubular, and lobulated AME (Tavassoli 1991).

AME with malignant features have seldom been reported (Hayes 2011) and named AME with carcinoma, when epithelial cells or myoepithelial cells show malignant cytomorphological features and malignant AME when these are present in both components (Brogi 2014).

    • AME is an extremely rare tumor, a few small case series and single case reports having been reported so far. (Decorsiere et al. 1988; McLaren et al. 2005; Loose et al. 1992; Rosen 1987; Tavassoli 1991). AME with carcinoma and malignant AME are even more infrequent than their...
